Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- ½ tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 slices of day-old bread per person (or as many as desired)
- Butter for frying
Instructions:
In a shallow bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, milk, egg, and vanilla until smooth and well combined.
Soak the bread slices in the mixture for a few minutes, allowing them to absorb the custard.
Heat a non-stick pan over medium heat and add a little butter and oil to coat the surface.
Fry the soaked bread slices until golden brown on both sides, about 2–3 minutes per side. Cook slowly to allow the center to set like a soft custard.
Serve warm with your favorite toppings like maple syrup, powdered sugar, or fresh fruit.
